But i think it was probably a way to reconcile the concept of the Christ - as a manifestation of God - with the concept of God the Father. THere are some sects which only recognise this dual aspect and see the Holy Spirit only as the power of God. But perhaps because two is numerologically considered to be a bad number, the Holy Spirit was made part of a trinity.

The concept of God emerged from polytheism (which is apparently why in the early parts of Genesis God refers to himself in the plural). And in some forms of Gnosticism, the Holy spirit is regarded as a separate being - Sophia. In these sects the jealous god Yahweh is not regarded as the highest god. And the Christ is sent by the ultimate god (El?) actually to save mankind from the tyranny of Yahweh. Fascinating stuff.Shoninhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03635409886545725801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20091905.post-1137845044588262972006-01-21T12:04:00.000+00:002006-01-21T12:04:00.000+00:00No problem at all - its Einstein's words. In fact I'm going to use your St Denys quote here because it's fitting with what I've been talking about.

Have you come across this quotation before?

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity"
- Albert EinsteinShoninhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03635409886545725801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20091905.post-1137827888130461642006-01-21T07:18:00.000+00:002006-01-21T07:18:00.000+00:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.oxeyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09879278667737901058noreply@blogger.com
